In 1977 he came back to Crimea buying with his money an house near Simferopol and lived there for 4 years, then the police took him and he had to leave again.

Karachol village, Crimea, Ukraine. A portrait of Djebbar Kokosh, 92 years old. When he was young he joined the Red Army and in 1939 was put in a concentration camp for 2 years. He managed to escape but was caught and kept in Austria untill the end of the war; he was arrested and kept in various places all across the Soviet Union for 11 years. Then he went to Uzbekistan and returned to Crimea in 1989.

They returned from Uzbekistan in 1990 and they had to build this house because their old one was not given back to them. In this area there used to be 75% of Tatars before deportation, now just 3 families are left.
