Vada Photo Festival commissioned TerraProject to photograph the Novaro Primary School, with the idea of creating the 2026 Yearbook. For two days, the school was transformed into a space for photography and experimentation. Through self-portraits, photographic portraits, and a group photo, each participant was able to share their stories and contribute to the construction of a collective image of the school community. The project draws inspiration from the imagery of the school yearbook, transforming it into something more open and contemporary: a story made up of many different perspectives, in which the children are not only photographed, but directly participate in the construction of their own image.
By creating their self-portrait, each participant was able to experiment with their relationship with the camera and with their own image. In front of the mirror, using a remote shutter system, the children chose how to look and how to be looked at. A simple gesture, but also a way to participate in the construction of one’s own representation. The exhibition brings together the results of that process and brings the participants’ self-portraits into dialogue with those created by TerraProject. A collection of images that attempts to convey, through photography, the complexity, vitality, and plurality of the new generations.
“Portraits from the Future” is also a study of the way we look at ourselves and tell our stories. An archive of the present, built together, to try to imagine the future through the eyes of those who will inhabit it.
