“The sense of places” is the first chapter of a long-term interest that our collective claim in exploring the Italian landscape with a series of photographic campaigns, focussed in areas peripheral to the well-known, tourist-centric, and stereotypical ideals of the Grand Tour.
Carried on between 2021 and 2022 in the Municipality of Figline and Incisa Valdarno, this year-long project allowed us to deepen the relationship with the community and the natural and urban texture of the area, giving voice to a dialogue between the human element and the landscape.
Our research focused on four major thematic areas: youth and education, work, culture and past-time, spirituality, telling the normality of everyday life, weaving a mosaic that wants to give back, first of all to those who live an preserve this territory. the image of a place that has inspired and guided our vision through the succession of time and seasons.
As Giovanna Calvenzi, curator of the project, writes, “Subjects are almost always posing, their gaze in the camera, the serenity of knowing that they lend their image to tell about their city, the activities that take place there. They know they are part of images destined to enter the history of Figline and Incisa Valdarno and, as the title of the volume wants, to give with their presence in the formidable transcription of TerraProjects, a sense of places“.
The project was an invitation by the Municipality of Figline and Incisa Valdarno.
